Today I’m going to talk about Toshiba LCD TV’s.

Toshiba, while not as popular make as a company like Sony or Sharp, make TV’s that I would say are definitely of comparable quality.

I’m going to talk mainly about the 42” Toshiba LCD TV today, as this is one of the most popular screen sizes Toshiba make.

Let’s talk about features:

Like all good LCD TV’s, the Toshiba has a fast response time of 8ms. This makes it fine for sports, action movies, and gaming. It also has a true HD native resolution of 1080p, which makes it perfect for HD sources.

One of the techno-babble features is the “PixelPure hi-bit digital video processor”, which basically gives you better, clearer, more natural images.

The two 10 watt speakers (20 watts in total) are also of good quality. They feature Dolby Digital and virtual surround sound just like the other more well known brands do. These sounds features make the audio very clear and have lots of range.

This is a high quality LCD TV. I have even seen reviews where people have said this is the perfect LCD TV. Although this is obviously subjective, I can see why people would say this.

This price is around $1700, which puts this in the same price range of the other popular LCD TVs made by companies like Sony, Sharp and Samsung.

The Toshiba LCD TV gives you great picture and audio, but it does lack a few features that some of the other brands have… for example, PIP (picture in picture), and some of the more impressive auto backlight features of the Samsung.

Today I’m going to talk about LG LCD TV’s.

LG aren’t very well known for their LCD TVs, probably because they don’t have many models out, as I think they mainly make computer monitors. But they have a few, so I thought it’s worth a mention on the blog.

The model I’m going to talk about is the 32” LG LCD. It has the expected standard features of a fast response time (its only 8ms which is pretty good). It has the 178 degree viewing angle, a brightness rather of 600cd/m2, and a good contrast ratio of 1200:1.

In case you’re wondering why a high contrast ratio is good, here’s why: When you have a higher contrast ratio, your LCD TV has a better ability of displaying the little color details that can sometimes go unseen due to the lighting in your room.

The LG LCD TV has built in speakers which make 10 watts of power each (20 in total) which is about right for a 32” screen. The speakers are also detachable, so if you want to take them off for any reason (such as using your own surround sound system maybe) then it’s pretty straight forward to do so.

Let’s talk about price. This LCD TV is around $1800 (at least it was when I last saw it online) which means this isn’t really the best bang for the buck when it comes to buying a new LCD TV. For this money, you could get yourself a better brand name with more features (the Samsung is cheaper, and has better features, for example).

That said, the LG does have all the features you need if you want this to double as a computer monitor. It has PIP (picture and picture), and fast response time for games, ad all the required connections for plugging it into a PC.

But in my opinion, there are better options out there.

Today I’m going to talk about Phillips LCD TV’s.

Now Phillips isn’t the most popular LCD TV manufacturer, and they don’t have a very wide range of TV’s (although they’ve got a wide range of small sized screens).

In my opinion the larger screens (32” and above) aren’t that great. (The 32” boosts a 18ms response time, for example… which we all know isn’t as good as you can get nowadays). Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they perform well, but I think you’re better off spending the money on a better brand. But it’s your decision.

So why am I talking about Phillips LCD TV’s if I don’t like them that much?

Well, I want to talk to you about their small screen models, that’s why!

Phillips has quite a popular 23” LCD TV in their lines, and that’s what I’m going to talk about today.

A small LCD TV is perfect if you haven’t got much space, and want a TV that can double as a monitor. These TV’s are suited for bedrooms, or if you want a TV in your kitchen, for example. They’re also lightweight, so if you want to travel with this TV (for whatever reason) then this is another reason why you might consider one of these TV’s.

One of the important features of the Phillips LCD TV is the 3D comb filter. This separates the brightness and color signals in 3D domain, which removes any cross-color, cross-luminance, and dot-crawl. So what does all that techno-babble mean?

Simply this: A better picture, and a better viewing experience.

It also has a feature called “crystal clear III” which is a whole host of picture enhancing systems, like dynamic contrast, blue stretch and green enhancement, which all come together to give you more natural looking colors.

The sound of this LCD TV is also quite good (although obviously not in the same league as an expensive 40” LCD TV).

In the end, this is a good LCD TV for someone who wants a small TV, that doubles as a PC monitor if needs be. It’s great for in the bedroom or in a college dorm room.

Today I’m going to talk about a relatively little known company called magnavox who also make LCD TV’s.

Although magnavox make a larger model of 37”, their most popular LCD TV is a little 15” one. There’s not really much information available on the bigger screen, because it isn’t particularly popular. So let’s talk about the 15” one.

Now for a 15” screen, this is a pretty good buy. It is cheap at around $300, and has just a enough features to make it good value. For example, it can easily double as a computer monitor for your home office or bedroom.

The response rate of this LCD TV is 25ms, which isn’t that great. But it won’t really matter, depending on what you use it for. If you plan on using this mainly as a PC monitor for gaming, then I wouldn’t recommend it. But if you are just after a cheap LCD TV for your bedroom, then this fits the bill. So it all depends on what you want to use it for.

It has the connections for all the common things you might need to use it for, like a DVD player, or gaming console or VCR… so you shouldn’t have any problems connection wise. It also has a remote control, which is one of the bonuses to getting a TV/monitor rather than a pure computer monitor.

The speakers are 2 watts each (4 in total) which is about all you need for a small LCD TV like this one.

Let’s talk about portable lcd tv’s today.

If you want a portable lcd tv, then you’re probably looking for something between 2.5” all the way to around 10”.

These things are great for people on the move (or for watching that important game while you’re at work!)

Some of the popular brands of portable lcd tv’s are “coby”, “axion”, and “pyle”. Also, Sony have a few models that are small enough to be classed as portable lcd tv’s.

One of my favorite small screen LCD TV’s is the Coby 5” model. This little thing sits on my kitchen counter quite nicely, and doesn’t take up too much space.

One thing that can suffer with these small portable TV’s is the sound quality. Now obviously you’re not going to be expecting ground breaking sound quality here, but you want to make sure the TV sounds good at average volumes. I checked reviews online to find a TV that doesn’t have “tinny” sound, and I settled for the Coby in the end. And at the price of around $90 (at the time of writing) it’s a pretty cheap buy.

If you’re interested in something that can play DVDs (which is a great feature to have with a portable LCD, seeing as the reception isn’t always great with the antennae), then the model I recommend you look in to is the Axion bravo series 8” TV/DVD combo. These things sell for around $215, but I’ve seen them for around $150 used on eBay.

Let’s talk about Panasonic LCD TV’s today.

But before I start, I just want to say that Panasonic make some good Plasma TV’s, in fact, they have many more Plasma models than LCD’s. some of them are very good. But I want to specialize in LCD TV’s for the moment, so that’s what I’ll talk about, okay?

Good.

Let’s get started:

The largest LCD TV Panasonic make is a 32” screen. They have a few models which are of a smaller size like 26”, 23” and lower. This makes Panasonic a choice for someone who maybe doesn’t have enough room or money for a larger screen, but still wants quality rather than a “bargain” manufacturer.

In this post I’m mainly going to talk about the 32” Panasonic.

These LCD TV’s have a great response time of 8ms, which is becoming more and more popular these days, as a low response time is something you definitely need if you plan on watching action films, sports, or playing console games.

It also has all the other important features such as 178 degree viewing angle, an automatic backlight control system etc.

It has a good contrast ratio of 3000:1 which means you’ll experience vivid and clear colors, which is what you should expect from any LCD TV.

One of the possible drawbacks for someone thinking about purchasing a Panasonic LCD TV is the resolution is 1080i/720p.

Why is this possibly a drawback? Well, at the moment, HDTV programs and DVDs are still 1080i/720p.

But in the future this may not be good enough, if you’re planning on getting a Blue-Ray DVD player or anything. But this may not affect you too much, as we are still a long way off from blue-ray being the standard. It’s just something for you to consider.

Despite this, I’d still recommend this to someone looking for a 32” LCD TV. The picture quality is very good, and some of the extra features (like the progressive scanning) help to give you a stable and solid picture which provides a great viewing experience.

Let’s talk about the price. The price of this Panasonic LCD TV (the 32” version) is around $1000 at the time of writing. If you’re looking for a good quality 32” screen that is a good bang for the buck, then the Panasonic is a good choice for you.

Today I’m going to talk about Samsung LCD TV’s.

As you may already know, Samsung are one of the bigger and well known LCD TV manufacturers. Their range of TVs goes from the small 14 inch flat panels to the monster 50” and up sizes. But the most popular sizes tend to be 32”, 37” and 40”.

The first thing I’ll say about the Samsung LCD TV range is that they look great and would fit in with any home.

But more important that how it looks, is how well it performs. And if we’re talking about Samsung’s 51 series (which we are) then performance is top notch. However, you need to be using this TV from a HD source otherwise the picture quality is going to suffer and you won’t be getting a fair representation of the quality this TV has to offer.

One of the interesting extra features of the Samsung 51 series is the “game mode”. You see, the people at Samsung worked with Microsoft to create a unique features and will optimize your picture quality and sound (and response time) for playing video games. This is a smart move seeing as how popular console gaming is nowadays… and this feature gives you a great gaming experience.

What exactly does game mode do? Well, at the touch of button you can enhance dark areas, sharpen the picture, and increase the image processing response and improve the sounds of your game.

Another neat design feature of the Samsung LCD TV’s is the dynamic contrast feature. This feature adjusts the backlight automatically, to make sure you get a better distinction with very dark or very bright scenes. Many LCD TV’s have something similar to this, but Samsung’s works very well in my experience.

Samsung’s LCD TV’s also have support for Samsung MP3 players and any other digital audio systems, which allows you to view the content of your mp3 player on your LCD TV… if that’s something you want to do.

So we know the picture is great with the Samsung, but what about the sound features?

Samsung LCD TV’s have a high quality “virtual surround sound” feature which simulates the experience of surround sound, but using only 2 speakers. Obviously this isn’t quite as good as true surround sound, but it’s a good feature that does create a better viewing (and listening) experience in my opinion.

The low response time (of around 8ms) of Samsungs 51 series is perfect for gaming, action movies, and sports. You shouldn’t experience any ghosting with such a low response time. And the picture will be even better if you are viewing a HD source.

The price (at the time of writing) is around $1700 for the 40” model. So it’s not exactly the cheapest LCD TV around, but not the most expensive either. I think it’s good value for your money. Samsung make good LCD TVs packed with useful features, and seeing as these things can last well over 10 or 15 years it’s a good investment.

Today I’m going to talk about another lesser known brand called vizio.

The vizio lcd tv I’m going to talk about is the L32 32” model. This is probably one of the most popular models made by vizio.

These TV’s are mainly sold by sam’s club and Costco, and fly off the shelves mainly because of the cheap price rather than incredible sound and picture quality. You can usually get this TV for around $680, which is very cheap for a 32” LCD TV.

Now obviously if you’re only willing to spend $680, you aren’t going to get the quality of an expensive Sony or Sharp LCD, but if you’re after a second TV for a different room of your house then this might be just what you’re looking for. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a dedicated TV for playing your Xbox 360 or other HD game consoles then this could be a good choice for you.

It has an impressive (for the price) response time of 12ms, which makes this LCD TV just fine for gaming.

If you’re considering the 37” Vizio rather than the 32”, then (to my knowledge) they are pretty much the same feature wise, just the 37” is bigger.

Let’s talk about sceptre lcd tv’s.

Sceptre aren’t as widely known as many other lcd tv manufacturers. In fact, they are properly more likely known as computer monitor producers… because before they got into making LCD TVs, they just made computer monitors.

The sceptre lcd tv’s are primarily aimed at the budget minded consumer. They are usually considerably cheaper than other more popular and well known brands such as Sony and Sharp.

One of the better models made by Sceptre is the “komodo” LCD TV. This TV is a respectable 37”, and features a fast 8ms response time (so you won’t have any ghosting here), a 170 degree viewing angle and it’s HD ready.

Another important feature of the Sceptre Komodo is its versatility as a PC monitor as well as a TV. (Which makes sense, seeing as Sceptre were always primarily computer monitor manufacturers and still are).

The most common model of sceptre lcd tv you’re likely to see is the “naga” series. This series contains LCD TVs, as well as more “monitor-like” LCD screens. If you are primarily after a computer monitor that doubles as a LCD TV this could be a good choice, as some of the naga gamer models have very fast response times as low as 5ms. This makes for great gaming.

In the end, the 30” to 42” sceptre lcd tv’s offer pretty good value if you don’t have a lot of money to spend. Sceptre certainly offer some of the lowest prices in the LCD TV market at the moment.

Today I’m going to talk about Sony LCD TV’s.

If you’ve been following the LCD TV market for awhile then you probably know that Sony has stopped making plasma TVs, and are now focusing on their LCD TV range.

One of the most exciting models that Sony have produced is the KDL Bravia range of LCD TVs.

One of the best Sony LCD TV’s in this range is the KDL40S2000 model, so this will be the one I’ll single out today. This is the 40” flat panel LCD.

Some of the standard features of this LCD TV is the fast 8ms response time, and the wide viewing angle.

But where this LCD TV really stands out is picture quality. Like all the LCD TV’s in the Bravia series, this TV has something called “wide color cold compact fluorescent light” or WCG-CCFL. What does this mean to you and me?

Simply this: With this new technology, the Sony Bravia’s can display a color gamut almost 30 percent larger than a traditional CCFL display. What this does is give you better colors. The reds will be deeper, the greens more vivid, and the blues cleaner.

The Sony Bravia also has a good light sensor feature which changes the brightness of the screen to match your room. But if you’re into all this technology then you’ll probably want to customise the picture settings to suit you.

Another technological advancement that’ll you’ll find on the Sony LCD TV’s is S-PVA. This means “super patterned vertical alignment”. What this does is it divides each sub pixel into two segments per color. Again, without getting too technical, this makes your picture even better.

It also has PC input, which means you can plug this into your PC and use it as a monitor if you want to.

To sum it up, The Sony LCD TV’s are some of the best on the market. In my opinion, you can’t go too wrong if you decide to purchase a Sony LCD TV.
