The ArkCanary II is an analog acoustic iPhone speaker, designed rather like an updated antique gramophone. The maker plans to get it to retail for around $13 if it gets enough funding via Kickstarter —and is so hopeful of doing so with the help of a “manufacturer in Korea” there’s already a pre-order page up and running. iPhone users have been able to use a mobile-optimized HTML5 version of Google Translate for some time now, but they can now finally also get an honest-to-goodness app of their own just like their Android-using friends . That brings with it a number of enhancements over the basic web app, including a speak-to-translate feature with support for 15 languages, the ability to listen to your translations in 23 different languages, and a full-screen mode that lets you show your translated text to others with large, easy-to-read text.

Teardowns (as in documented disassemblies, to plumb its inner secrets) of Verizon's iPhone 4 by several technology websites suggest the phone has redesigns that go beyond those needed for the phone to work on Verizon's network. If accurate, the reports suggest that Apple, as we expected, has seized the opportunity presented by re-engineering its smartphone for a new carrier to also remedy reception problems with the AT&T iPhone 4. A teardown of the phone by website iFixit , for example, provides a detailed picture of how the iPhone 4's antenna design was altered.
