CU files comments with FCC backing cell phone ‘bill shock’ rules

Consumers Union (the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports) filed comments today with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in support of the agency's proposed rules to combat cell phone “bill shock” : the problem of customers hit by unexpected charges on their mobile phone bills. Included in the submission were signatures from over 47,000 people who agree with the FCC's proposal to require wireless companies to notify customers before they exceed their limits on minutes, text, and data.

iControlPad ready to ship next week

Thankfully, there are some devices which have actually made the transition from vaporware to being available in the real world, and we have word that the iControlPad will be shipping as early as next week. This device was first talked about three years ago, where it was then just a simple case with a dock connector, but how time has changed all of that since the final version costs you a cool $74.99 while offering Bluetooth connectivity to have it play nice with a whole host of devices apart from iOS-powered ones – yes, that means owners of Motorolas, BlackBerrys and Android phones will also be able to look forward to this. Will this change the mobile gaming scene drastically

Verizon iPhone 4 teardown reveals antenna changes

Teardowns (as in documented disassemblies, to plumb its inner secrets) of Verizon's iPhone 4 by several technology websites suggest the phone has redesigns that go beyond those needed for the phone to work on Verizon's network. If accurate, the reports suggest that Apple, as we expected, has seized the opportunity presented by re-engineering its smartphone for a new carrier to also remedy reception problems with the AT&T iPhone 4. A teardown of the phone by website iFixit , for example, provides a detailed picture of how the iPhone 4's antenna design was altered.

Nokia reportedly planning ‘organizational changes,’ mobile phones exec on the outs

Looks like Capital Markets Day is shaping up to be quite the barnburner for Nokia. In the wake of news that Microsoft and Nokia may have some sort of tie-up in the works, Germany weekly Wirtschaftswoche is reporting that newly appointed CEO Stephen Elop will be bidding adieu to a number of high-ranking officials.
