Westinghouse specialize in “value” LCD TV’s. They represent great value for the customer who doesn’t want to spend the money on a more expensive brand like Sony or Sharp.
Their “LTV” series ranges from 17” LCD TV’s all the way to 46” screens.
One of the most popular Westinghouse LCD TV’s available on the market at the moment is the LTV-27w2 Flat Panel LCD TV. According to their website, this is the number one selling 27” LCD TV in the USA.
To give you a better idea of what Westinghouse LCD’s are like, I’ll single out a model and explain some of the features you get for your money.
The model I’ll single out will be the Westinghouse LTV-27w7. This LCD is a good representation of what’s out there for the budget-minded customer.
Firstly, one of the best features of this TV is the fact that its cheap compared to more expensive brands like Sony and Sharp. You can usually pick one of these up for less than $800. And if you’re not too concerned about extra features, this may be a good choice for you.
Here’s something you need to know: Obviously you get what you pay for when it comes to LCD TV’s. But if you buy a smaller screen (such as a 27” one) you’re far less likely to notice the drop in quality.
This makes the Westinghouse LCD a good choice if you’re on a budget, especially if you only want a 27” screen.
This Westinghouse model also has a PC input, which is great news for people who want their LCD TV to double as a computer monitor. This feature also comes in handy in places where you haven’t got enough space to have a computer monitor and a TV (a bedroom, for example).
Something that a lot of budget brands fall short on are the speakers. Although you are primarily after the LCD TV, you need to keep in mind that the sound makes up a large part of the viewing experience as well. The 2 10 watt speakers are fine for the 27” model, but if you are considering buying a larger Westinghouse LCD, then you may want to consider some alternative audio… because the speakers aren’t good enough on the larger models (in my opinion, anyway).
Now let’s talk about the picture. After all, this is one of the most important features of an LCD TV.
Surprisingly, the picture isn’t too bad for a 27” screen. You will need to do some manual tweaking of the setting to get it looking nice though. You’ll probably need to lower the brightness (they are often too bright in order to get attention in a showroom… but when you get it home, it will look awful if you don’t change it).
The Westinghouse LTV-27w7 doesn’t actually have any default picture settings either, which makes it even more important to do some adjusting.
Anyway, that’s my brief introduction of what the Westinghouse LCD TV’s are like. If you are on a budget then Westinghouse may have the LCD TV you need.
